Here are the answers to some questions you may want to ask?

 

1. How long have you been the librarian at Lawrence Elementary School?

This is my seventh year as the library teacher at Lawrence Elementary. 

 

2.  Have  you always been a librarian?

Before I started here, I taught in the classroom for 8 years.  I was a Title 1 teacher for 1 year in Sisseton, SD.  I taught fifth grade for 1year and third grade for 3 years in Norfolk, Virginia and I taught first grade for 1 year and second grade for two years in Tea, SD.

 

3.  How often do we get to come to library?

Each class comes one time a week for class.

 

4. What do we do in library class?

First, we have class time where we learn about library skills and books.  Then we check out books.

 

5.  How many books can I check out?

KPrep. K , grade 1, grade 2, can check out 2 books.                             Grade 3, 4, 5 can check out 3 items total.  You can also start checking out magazines and books on tape.

 

6.  What is AR?

AR means Accelerated Reader.  It is a reading program for Grades 3,4,5.  You read a book then take a test on it on the computer.

 

7.  Why are there colored dots on some of the books?

The dots tell the reading level of the book for AR.

 

8.  Where did Mrs. Fjeslstad go?

After 1 year in the library, Mrs. Fjelstad went to Title 1 where she works with students and their math.

 

9.  Is it fun being the librarian?

It's a blast!  I get to see all the students in the school.  I get to read books and play with puppets.  I also get to order the books for the library and help the teachers find what they need for their classroom.
